It's More than Recovery, It's Discovery.

When people hear about a woodshed, they grin and think of discipline, but it’s also known as a path to discovery. The term is used in academia to test students and for musicians, it’s an escape for creativity. We chose our name to reflect the nature of our mission.  In dealing with addiction, it’s natural to try and recover what’s been lost, but it’s supernatural to discover what’s never been found.

Our executive director and house manager have been in over 10 rehab programs and experienced being reformed temporarily, but never transformed permanently. The Woodshed is a gospel-centered transformational men’s ministry that’s more than physical recovery, it’s spiritual discovery.

Our Approach

Dealing with Addiction

In dealing with addiction, the primary focus cannot be one’s dignity and trying to get their family back. That might make a great country song, but that approach is so wrong. Could you imagine your doctor just treating the symptoms, but never trying to address the source of your pain?  The physical drugs and alcohol aren’t the source of the disease, they’re just the spiritual symptoms.

APPROACH TO TREATMENT

The Woodshed’s approach to treatment is a paradox. In order to have life, there must first be a death. The cross today is a symbol of healing and life, but originally it was a symbol of excruciating death.  Our 9-month discovery program will focus on the teachings of Jesus and following Him to the wood of the cross and what was shed to recover what was lost.

ENCOUNTERING A PERSON

Addiction is a matter of life and death, both physically and spiritually. But it’s not about completing our program, the Woodshed is about encountering a Person.

If you or your loved one has tried recovery, it’s time for discovery!

Rob Willis

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Raised in Missouri and Arkansas, Rob's early life was marred by a family legacy of addiction, leading to a childhood of neglect and various abuses. He started drinking at the age of eight, gradually progressing to marijuana, pills, and eventually methamphetamine addiction by his early twenties. His tumultuous twenties were a cycle of incarceration, treatment centers, and ultimately homelessness, all while sporadically seeking solace in church and fleeting periods of sobriety.

Rob's life took a turn in 2008 when he married Erin. Her support and that of her family helped him stay sober for a time, but he relapsed. By 2010, his marriage was faltering, and prolonged substance abuse led him to contemplate suicide. However, in this moment of despair, he had a profound encounter with Jesus, marking the start of a new chapter.

Since that pivotal moment in 2010, Rob has been sober, experienced the healing of his marriage, and welcomed a daughter. Ordained as a pastor in 2015, he now passionately shares his story to offer hope to those struggling with sin and addiction, underscoring the transformative power of Jesus. At the Woodshed, his focus is on guiding men to understand and heal the heart issues at the root of addiction.

Take the first step on your discovery journey.
